About the artist

Born in 1960, in Dublin, Ireland, Anne Crowley's love for art was encouraged by her grandfather, Liam O'Rinn who was a painter and a collector of paintings by Irish artists. She began her study of painting at the Dun Laoghaire School of Art and continued at the National College of Art and Design, Ireland, where she earned a BFA. She made her way to New York City and received a Masters in Fine Art with Honors from Hunter College in 1986. Anne's work has been exhibited in galleries internationally, including New York City, Woodstock, San Francisco and Ireland.

In 2000, Anne relocated from New York City to the Catskill Mountains. Crowley found her new surroundings visually compelling and she began drawing and painting directly from nature. Her paintings are developed over a period of time. Each one is a multilayered textural experience. Anne interprets light and energy specific to each of the four seasons. Her work invites the viewer to share in the experience of careful observation of the natural world all through the year.

Anne Crowley talks about how nature - in her own backyard - influences her art. "I attempt to articulate the energy and motion of animals and plants that I see every day and to give them traction in two dimensional terms."
